My husband and I had a trip together to the US mainland at our 10th anniversary of our marriage.
It was our first time flying there, so we were excited to have new experiences together and enjoy various kinds of food.
Everything including our flights was smooth and peaceful, until we hit the road.
We arrived in Sacrament at nearly midnight, so we stayed at the airport hotel, and started our journey next day.
The car was new (because it was a rental car) and the roads were new to us as well.
The next day, we were ready to drive to the mountain. I was still a little groggy from some time difference, but the coffee I got at the takeout café was so good and I got awake.
My darling got situated in the car of Mazda and we were ready to go on the road.
Then, “oh, my goodness!!”
“What is that?!”
I felt like being thrown into a totally new world!
Everybody is driving so fast on the highway!!
Cars are coming all over us to change lanes.
I am so used to driving on the road of 1 lane for the same direction in Big Island.
However, I am not so used to this kind of the situation where everybody keeps changing multiple lanes all over with such a high speed!
My husband was originally from a big city in California, but after driving in Big Island for a long time, it might have been nearly fresh experience to him.
He had to adjust to this world as quickly as possible because we were already on the highway!
Another challenging matter was the signs on the highway were confusing and did not make sense sometimes. Later we found out that it was because the construction happening there.
One time, we missed one right exit and had to come back.
